A variety of colors allows you to choose the option as appropriate to the style and purpose of the room.

What is acrylic wallpaper?

The material is a two-layer coating, paper or vinyl and acrylic. Foam acrylic is applied on a paper basis with a dot method, according to the same principle as vinyl wallpaper. As a result, an airy breathing embossed pattern is formed on the surface. The polymer coating is safe for interior decoration, acrylic does not emit harmful substances.

Types and characteristics

Paper based

Eco-friendly material. Canvases with a paper base can be used to finish the children's room and bedroom. However, this type with the lowest strength, the service life of the coating is low. When pasting, the adhesive composition is applied to the surface of the walls and the wallpaper section, and then immediately joined. Paper does not interact well with liquids, so finishing work must be performed consistently and quickly.

On non-woven base

Acrylic wallpaper on non-woven base stronger paper. The elastic first layer is durable and can withstand even a crack in the wall. Non-woven base wallpapers are easier to glue, they do not need to be accurately measured, as with a paper type, the residue is cut off after pasting.

Liquid wallpaper

Liquid acrylic wallpaper is in its original form a dry mixture, which is diluted with glue before work. The surface after application has no seams and looks like plaster. In order to ensure maximum adhesion of surfaces, the walls must be primed before applying the material. This procedure also helps to avoid mold and mildew.

What glue to use?

There is no fundamental difference between sticking acrylic, paper or vinyl wallpaper. They all "sit down" on the glue on the previously prepared surface. The glue will suit the one that is designed for vinyl wallpaper, but it would be better to choose the one that the manufacturer recommends, since it will take into account all the nuances of the material.

Step-by-step instruction

Work on sticking acrylic wallpaper is carried out in several stages. There is no fundamental difference with other wallpaper or individual difficulties. For the best result, it is necessary to close all windows, doors and get rid of drafts in the apartment until the walls are completely dry.

  1. Cleaning the walls. It is necessary to remove the old coating.

  2. Primer. The walls are primed for better adhesion of the material to the walls. If necessary, cracks and irregularities are filled with putty, after which the surface is primed once again.

  3. Cooking adhesive composition. The packaging is quite clearly described the process of breeding glue. Depending on the manufacturer, it may differ slightly, therefore, before proceeding with its preparation, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the instructions.

  4. Measurements and preparation of bands. To do this, measure the length of the walls and from the roll of wallpaper cut into strips of the desired length, adding a few centimeters to the margin. Such training simplifies and streamlines the process of gluing.

  5. Marks on the wall. Before you begin to work, you need to measure a flat vertical strip equal to the width of the wallpaper. The vertical mark is measured using a level or a plumb, it allows you to glue the wallpaper exactly vertically, "not filling up" the strip.

  6. Glue is applied to a strip of wallpaper and a wall with a brush or roller and left for some time to soak, after which the canvas is applied and fixed to the wall. Acrylic wallpaper on paper basis does not require time after applying the adhesive composition, and immediately glued to the wall.

  7. Smoothing After gluing, the wall is smoothed with a soft cloth or brush. Plastic spatula for this type of wallpaper is not suitable, it can damage the surface structure.

  8. After drying, you can remove excess wallpaper.

Terms of care and cleaning

Any surface in the house requires periodic maintenance, as dust settles on them, even if there are no obvious visual signs. Walls are no exception. Acrylic coating has some features for care, however, like any other. Observing the simplest rules of care, the service of acrylic canvases can be extended, and the appearance preserved in its original form.

  • Acrylic spraying "does not tolerate" abrasive cleaners and coarse brushes,
  • cleaning is done with gentle soft movements
  • for preventive purposes, it is enough to walk with a soft brush or dry cloth,
  • it is not a washable wallpaper, but you can use a damp, soft cloth for wet cleaning,
  • water will help to get rid of the stain, more precisely a sponge soaked in it,
  • For "complex" stains, you can use special liquids for acrylic surfaces.
