Unusual paintings for the interior: 75 design ideas

Even a typical interior will become creative if unusual decorative elements are added to it. Paintings are a stylish wall decoration that can highlight the strengths of the design, change the visual perception of space, create a perspective or a bright accent. Images placed in frames can be large, small, have a complex configuration and different stylistic plots. Recently, modular pictures consisting of several segments have become fashionable. Do-it-yourself canvases are also popular, as handemade is now valued rather highly. In the luxury apartments use designer paintings - expensive, unique interior decoration. Modern painting is not limited to oil and canvas. To create, you can use a variety of materials: from buttons to sand. The main thing in this business is inspiration. Consider a series of workshops on the creation of unusual paintings for the interior.

Sand paintings

To create sand paintings you can use your own talent as a painter, as well as templates.

For work you will need:

  • Colored sand (can be purchased in stores for creativity);
  • PVA glue;
  • Sheet of thick cardboard;
  • Marker and pattern;
  • Brush for glue (bristles).

Start with the transfer of the contour of the image on a sheet of cardboard. The template is applied to the paper and circled with a marker. Then separate parts of the image, which should be painted in one color, are coated with glue. The future picture is sprinkled with sand, the surplus of which is whisked back into the tank. Now you need to wait until the glue dries and can be taken for the following fragments of the picture. Consistently sand "paint over" the entire canvas. So that the image does not crumble over time, it is covered with a layer of clear varnish. Sand paintings look unusual and creative. The stores for creativity sell entire sets in which you can find tools, a template and cardboard-canvas. This decor is ideal for decorating a children's room or kitchen, if the center of the plot is a juicy still life or a picturesque landscape.

Making sand paintings is considered to be a rather complicated technique. The higher the clarity of the image, the more colors will have to be used and the smaller will be the individual details.

From felt - felting technique

Craftswomen using the felting technique create their own genuine masterpieces of needlework: cute little animals with beady eyes, original dolls and bright, colorful paintings that blow home warmth and coziness. In the role of the main material in this kind of creativity is wool. Her roll in two ways:

  • Wet felting. Pictures turn out flat, like painted canvases.
  • Dry felting. Pictures are more voluminous, fluffy, creating a light 3D effect.

To work with wool, you need a special felting needle. First, a sketch is drawn on the canvas. It is gradually filled with scraps of wool of different colors, which are then tangled and compacted with a needle.

Drawing with threads

Drawing with threads is a kind of needlework, which includes many techniques. Pictures can be knitted and glued to the canvas, embroidered, created from pieces of wool, which is simply applied to the canvas, and then pressed down firmly with glass. Relatively recently, another unusual technique appeared that has not yet received an “official” name. The thread is dipped in watercolor and then it is carefully applied to a clean sheet of paper. It is necessary to have intricate with bends and loops. After that, the future picture is covered with a second sheet of paper, pressed down with something heavy. Now you need to pull the tips and sharply pull the thread out of the two-layer structure. In addition to the main contour, it will leave blurry marks on the paper. In this technique, it is recommended to draw flowers or abstractions, that is, fuzzy images. Such decor will look original in high-tech, minimalism, loft styles.

Gluing technique

One of the simple, but time consuming options for drawing threads is flocking. To work with this technique, you will need PVA glue, paper backing, scissors and colored yarn. First, a sketch of the image is transferred to the cardboard. Then the yarn is cut into small pieces. Individual fragments of the pattern are coated with PVA glue and sprinkled with crushed threads. The work is somewhat similar to the creation of paintings from the sand, instead of which use yarn. The result is an interesting, beautiful decor that can decorate any room.

With nails and threads

A panel of nails and threads without a template can be made only by a person who has a certain talent of an artist who knows how to subtly transfer shades and half tones. If the desire is great, and the skill is not enough, then you have to pick up simple pictures that will be samples. The base is a wooden plate or foam sheet. If desired, it is covered with leather or monochromatic fabric to give the background the desired shade. Small carnations are driven into the plate at an equal distance from each other. They are then used as pegs for which the threads are hooked. If the drawing is simple and repeats only the contours of the object, then the carnations are driven in along the edge of the image. If it is necessary to create a complex picture with numerous small details, then the whole canvas is dotted with pegs. The more threads the thread makes, the more “filled” the element will look. Tying knots each time is not necessary. The main thing is that the thread is tight, without sagging, and only the ends are fastened. It is better to use yarn for knitting, it is considered the most durable. The "voids" inside the picture are filled with numerous intersections of threads that "meet" with each other from different angles.

Pictures of buttons, coins, beads and beads

Buttons and coins usually fill only the accent areas of the picture. For example, a background is painted with paints and a brush, and a bouquet of flowers is made bulky, convex. Buttons are fastened with the help of threads, and the coins are glued or hooked to rings, which are threaded into pre-drilled holes. Often these materials are combined with ribbons, beads and glass beads. If the picture is completely filled with buttons, then they need to be carefully selected by color. Bead embroidery on the fabric. For work use hoops, needle and fishing line. This is the same hard work as embroidery thread. To create a small canvas will have to spend a lot of time. However, the image shimmering in the light will be a worthy reward for the master. On a similar technique perform "diamond" embroidery. Only pebbles are not sewn, but glued to a sticky base, on which a drawing has already been applied. By the way, for beginners special fabrics are sold with sketches so that it is easier to embroider with beads. Coins on the image decorate mainly lush crowns of trees and fish scales.

Pictures of fabric and lace

Pictures from fabric create flat and volume. For the first option (appliqués), use soft felt or multi-colored rags of velvet, velor, polyester, silk. On the basis of transfer pattern, which is subsequently filled with shreds. Fix them with glue. To create a pattern in the style of patchwork is not needed. The cloth is sewn from shreds, and then fixed directly on the wall. Such a cozy decor fits to the style of fusion, country, Provence. It is much more difficult and interesting to create three-dimensional paintings. Masters work in the technique of kinusayga, osie, wet fabric and sew fantastic flowers from silk ribbons. For the first method will require:

  • Foam base;
  • Stationery knife;
  • Pencil;
  • Shreds tissue;
  • PVA glue;
  • Brush

Work in the kinusayg technique begins with drawing a sketch on the basis of foam. Then the contours of the parts cut through with a stationery knife. The depth of the incision is about 1-2 cm. On separate fragments, pre-lubricated with glue, impose fabric patches, which are pre-cut under the desired shape with stocks. Now a piece of fabric is pressed into the incisions, thus masking the edges. Osie technique is much more complicated. First, the image is applied to a sheet of paper, then it is cut into individual fragments. They are pasted with foam rubber, and then with a cloth. Based on the picture "assembled" again in a single composition.

To work in the technique of wet tissue will require a large piece of textiles, glue, paint, brush. First spread the glue in the tank. Then the fabric is dipped into it, thoroughly soaking it with the composition. After that, the textiles are laid on the base, crushing and creating disorderly folds. When the fabric dries, paint it on it. City panoramas with volumetric clouds, seascapes with relief waves, picturesque forests with impressive treetops will look original and unusually beautiful. Patterns of lace are obtained flat. Usually they do not have a clear plot, only a set of flowers or snowflakes. The work of white lace, which is pasted on a black background, will look stylish and contrasting.

Modular pictures from wallpaper

Modular pictures of the wallpaper are made by a simple algorithm. First you need to get a plywood base for each segment of the future composition or ordinary clean canvases with stretchers. Then the wallpaper is cut into pieces of the desired size (always with stocks for wrapping edges). It can be fixed on the base with wallpaper glue or paper clips. In the first case, the entire canvas must be coated, and the glued paper should be carefully leveled so that the tubercles are not formed from the air. By the way, they use not only wallpaper, but also fabric. A triptych or quadriptych will look stylish, in which modules with unobtrusive ornamentation and bright, juicy scenes alternate. Such pictures will organically blend into the modern design of the kitchen, bedroom or living room.

Segments of modular paintings should be united by a common plot. If wallpaper is used, the composition will turn out to be abstract. In this situation, you need to combine shades and patterns.

Leather as a material for creativity

From the skin create a magnificent three-dimensional paintings with floral motifs. To work with the material will need:

  • Scissors;
  • Glue gun;
  • Tweezers;
  • Paraffin candle;
  • Templates

First, on a piece of skin, patterns are circled around the contours. Then they are cut out and lit a candle. Each piece is brought to the light in such a way that only the edges are heated. Under the influence of temperature, they will slightly be bent inward, shrink and a petal will turn out. They are collected in buds and fasten with glue. The finished flowers are placed on the base, covered with sackcloth. The leaves are simply crushed by hands along the "veins" to give them volume and glued in this form to the canvas.

We draw using spray paint and plants

Among designers, this method is called spray paint art or the technique of “fast drawing”. For work they use paints in cans, a sheet of paper, stencils (mainly improvised means), scrapers, sharp metal sticks. The image is applied in several layers, simultaneously mixing colors with the help of tools. The most popular theme for spray paint art is space. Fantastic, slightly abstract landscapes of distant planets are easy to create by mixing colors that form unusual "twists" and play. To create a floral pattern, use real twigs, stems with leaves and flowers. They act as stencils. First, individual areas are painted over with the color in which the plants will be painted. Then they are applied to the canvas and spray paint on top for the background.

In this work, be sure to use a respirator. The artist will inevitably inhale microparticles of paint, which can harm the respiratory system.

Other interesting ideas for creating paintings

Design pictures are made in the technique of quilling, from coffee beans and cereals, from bouquets of dried flowers, flour, colorful glasses, twine, matches, pieces of ceramic tiles and even soft toys. The latter method is original. Teddy bear sprinkled with flour in front, and then pressed the toy to a black canvas. Flour dust peels off, remains "cast" bear. Fix the image with varnish. From the egg shell you can make a picture in a mosaic technique: it is glued to the canvas, and then painted. This material perfectly imitates the texture of the skin of reptiles. From cigar bows, connoisseurs of tobacco products, create wonderful surreal canvases. Pictures turn out bright and contrast. Cigar bows are glued to the base.

To make an airy, smoky image of tulle, you have to poke around. The material must be folded in such a way that blurred outlines of the image are obtained. Then the tulle is ironed so that it “melts” to the base, but does not burn. Luxurious in this technique are portraits that will decorate the decoration of any home. Pictures of spare parts (bicycle chains, old batteries, bolts, wrenches, chips) are suitable only for modern styles, steampunk, futurism. Pictures from wings-butterflies look completely different in the interior. Gentle, soft scenes are made of fragile material, which is subsequently painted. The technique was created by our compatriot Vadim Zaritsky. In his studio, an experimental artist makes genuine masterpieces.

For another original “recipe” of making a picture, use Bengal lights, a template with a small animal, water with citric acid, a spray bottle and a sheet of plywood, painted with white paint for interior work. Spray the liquid on the base and draw the abstract lines with a brush. After drying, the plywood is applied silhouettes of animals. Then the Bengal lights are set on fire and neatly placed in a row on the base while they are still burning. The result is an original “pattern” with branches of trees and white silhouettes of animals. It is rather simple to make an engraving using the technique of scraping your own hands. Molten paraffin wax is applied to the white canvas. After hardening, the surface is painted black. Then on it with a sharp needle "scratch" the drawing. The best of all in this technique are animals, because you can get high detail and "draw" each wool.

Conclusion

It is not enough to create a picture, it still needs to be positioned correctly so that the image attracts attention to itself, but does not suppress other decorative elements in the interior. Use a contrasting combination of the background (wall) and the plot of the canvas. If the wallpaper is variegated with bright ornament, then the picture is carried out in soothing shades. When the wall covering is monochromatic, faded, bright scenes with rich colors are used. When placing a whole group of paintings the need for additional decoration is eliminated.
