We embody pop art in the design of apartments +50 photos in the interior

Pop art style originated in the United States and Western Europe in the middle of the last century. Its history goes back almost 70 years. Initially, it only developed rapidly in painting, then gradually moved to photography, sculpture, clothing and interior design. The name is an abbreviated form of the phrase "popular art", which literally translates as "popular art". The style draws inspiration from consumer products. The direction arose, as opposed to expressionism, which lived out its last days. In place of the famous creators of the fading genre (Pollock, Kandisky) came new talents, among which Andy Warhol stood out as a bright star in the art sky. Artist, designer and photographer - he created a separate, independent branch of direction. She received the name of commercial pop art. Perhaps the most famous masterpiece was the diptych painting with the face of a Hollywood star - Marilyn Monroe. Warhol superimposed more than fifty images of the actress, made in different colors, using the technique of silk screen printing. The manner of execution of the work was so much enjoyed by the masses that they still adorn the premises with such stylized paintings and photographs. The main purpose of pop art is to surprise and sometimes shock the public. First, the direction was leaked into the interior solutions of cafes and fashionable restaurants, and only then - into the living quarters. Find out what are the distinctive features of style, and how to find the line between pop art and bad taste.

Style features

Pop art refers to provocative and defiant directions. Its development has become a prerequisite to the incredibly bright and flashy fashion of the 70s and 80s. If you enter a room designed according to the canons of direction, you will not confuse it with anything else. Among the main distinguishing features are:

  • Using a combination of white walls with “acidic” colors in the interior;
  • The abundance of posters and stylized photographs. They depict scenes from comics, faces of celebrities in Warhol technique and household items (products of mass consumption and food): soda cans, bottles, chocolate bars, cars, music records. Pictures are often repeated in different colors;
  • In the decoration of plastic, synthetic and artificial materials. Pop art does not accept luxury and chic;
  • The ceiling and floor are decorated in neutral colors, as the accents are arranged in the setting;
  • Much attention in pop art is paid to small decor: souvenirs, statuettes, photographs;
  • The main principle of choosing furniture is its practicality. Non-standard futuristic lines and shapes are welcome.

The above features have some similarities with the retro 80s. In fact, the peak of the development of style came precisely in this period.

Materials and finishes

The apartment uses artificial materials for walls, ceiling and floor. Accents will be placed on the filling room. For this reason, pop art is considered one of the most budget styles. With minimal cost, homeowners can get an original and trendy interior.

Walls

The coating must be chosen in white color. This option is considered the best background for bright colors in furniture and decor. The walls are decorated in several ways:

  • Glue wallpaper. Choose the most simple types: paper, non-woven or more modern vinyl. Naturally necessary to take into account the features of the room. In the kitchen or in the bathroom, materials resistant to high humidity and temperature changes are used. Embossed texture is not welcome. The simpler, the more consistent style. Use of glossy surfaces is acceptable;
  • Drywall Panels of this material are quickly mounted and easily hide a layer of insulation or flaws on the surface of the walls;
  • Decorative plaster. Its most practical version is used: white, non-relief coating;
  • PVC panels. The material is sensitive to mechanical damage, but is easy to clean, and the damaged area can always be replaced. Pop art loves plastic, so the last picture fits in organically;
  • Paint. Somewhat outdated option that is not suitable for walls with visible defects. Differs in low cost.

In the style of pop art does not look decorative tile. An exception can be made only on the kitchen apron and in the bathroom.

Floor

Laminate or parquet flooring is used in rare cases. Often, preference is given to monochromatic linoleum, which does not require special expenses, and will fit into the style of the room. A more expensive option - self-leveling floor. It is characterized by durability, lack of seams and glossy shine. The effect of "lacquered" coating is applied not only to the finish, but also to the surfaces of the furniture. It is permissible to use additional features of the material: applying bright pictures or single characters in some particular area. For example, Tom's cat may look suspiciously in the corner of the guests, and on the wall Jerry will hide from him. This is only one of the design options that “customize” for themselves and their preferences.

Ceiling

Ceiling primer and put a layer of plaster on top. The easiest and cheapest option. In more expensive interiors use a plasterboard, but the "steps" of this material are not welcome. As an exception, the multi-level ceiling can be used only for additional zoning in the combined rooms. Suspended or tensioned versions also blend harmoniously into the stylistic picture, but there should be no patterns and ornaments on them. It is better to leave the ceiling covering white, since its main task is to shade and balance the "motley" room decor.

Color solutions

"Box" of the room, as a rule, trim in bright colors. This is a tribute to the first design experiments that were carried out at the dawn of style formation. Now the premises allow the use of white ceiling and walls with black or red flooring. The game of contrasts is one of the "pillars" of direction. In furnishing and decor, the following colors are actively used:

  • Screaming red;
  • Rich fuchsia;
  • Acid green;
  • Juicy yellow;
  • Deep blue or blue.

Pop art belongs to the rebellious currents. If the directions had a “psychological age”, then this style would be portrayed as a young man at puberty on a wave of maximalism. For this reason, color combinations may be the most unexpected. In any other direction, they would have been regarded as bad taste, and in pop art such combinations are considered to be an organic expression of substandard thinking.

Furniture

In this style they prefer non-standard forms and inexpensive materials. From textiles choose synthetics, artificial leather, polyester. Sofas in the shape of lips, painted up with red lipstick, or soft corners "hollow" inside - an accent element of decor. If the chairs, then only from plastic with bright pictures on the surfaces. Sofas-benches, assembled from round "pieces" upholstered in artificial leather, look harmoniously. They are interconnected by thin metal rods, which, intertwined, create a complex pattern. If you choose a chair, then give preference to the design "throne" with carved armrests on twisted legs, but colorful upholstery with geometric patterns. Instead of a coffee table, get an original element: an imitation of the front of the car with a bumper, on which a glass tabletop is installed. Cabinets and drawers are used with striped prints on surfaces. Round poufs covered with textiles of “cosmic” colors look very impressive: silver, gold, bronze.

Do not forget that from the furniture use only the necessary minimum. In this case, pop art is similar to minimalism: only practical and simple. Due to the large number of accents, the room may seem “cluttered up”, therefore, observe the measure.

Details and decor

The interior décor uses simple things that take on new life. Such elements can be purchased from venerable designers or do no worse than their own hands. Vases can be drawn from used cans or empty bottles. The surface of the container does not need to be cleaned from the labels, on the contrary, their presence will correspond to the style. Even without the talent of an artist or designer, you can create a unique poster. Take old newspapers, cut out headlines or whole articles, and paste these pieces on a piece of cardboard in a chaotic manner. Then the canvas is decorated with a frame and hung on the wall. Tape the high mirror in the hallway with comic book clippings and wrap a garland of bulbs. If you still have old phonograph records, then you can do them in several ways:

  • Heat them in the oven. Put on gloves to avoid burns, and bend the flexible edges in one direction, creating a wave-like edging. The finished item can be used as a flower pot or a souvenir stand. Additionally, it is painted with acrylic or tempera;
  • Thread the twine through the holes in the membranes, tie it with a knot over the edge of each plate so that they are held vertically. Make a few such “garlands” that will decorate part of the wall.

To sew soft pillows for sofas and beds you need only foam padding and synthetic fabrics of bright colors. In addition to traditional square shapes, sew round, triangular and curly (hearts or bitten apples) decorative elements. Upholstery on solid chairs can be replaced with balls of colored threads fastened together. The armrests of the sofa and coffee tables decorate the tone with the same coating. A large number of slider stickers are applied to any surfaces.

In pop art, trivial, everyday things can become a stylish element of design. Do not be afraid to experiment. Wall paintings "survive" any incarnation. These can be favorite cartoon characters, thematic photos of apartment owners or comic book dialogues in typical round frames, which they depict in graphic novels.

Lighting

Lighting is created on three levels in a standard pattern:

  • Ceiling;
  • Additional;
  • Directional (local).

Forget about typical chandeliers. The ceiling is decorated with original shades:

  • Chandeliers with bright matte finish imitating antique candlesticks with bulbs;
  • Round ceiling, collected in one grape "bunch";
  • Imitation of balloons filled with helium, which soared to the ceiling. In addition to them, “strings” are attached from below;
  • Flat round chandeliers, as if assembled from several “layers” of circles of different sizes, one of which emits light;
  • Complex compositions of plafonds, which are interconnected by rods in the manner of molecules.

These are just a few of the hundreds of possible options. To purchase the original cover, it is better to refer to the designer collections. Additional lighting is provided by wall sconces and table lamps, which are not inferior in originality to ceiling chandeliers. Point light sources are replaced with festoons of white light bulbs, wires should not be hidden, as they will add a special flavor to the interior.

Registration of premises in the style of pop art

In the style of pop art premises should look outside the box, primitive and flashy-bright. The theme of "challenge" to society brought the style with him from art. The philosophy of freedom must be played up differently in each room. As a rule, the design of the premises is not repeated, but only has similar features. To get inspiration, open the pages of your favorite graphic novels or photos of fashionable galleries with canvases in the style of pop art.

Kitchen

For the kitchen, choose a bright set with a lacquered effect. One of the walls can be decorated with photo wallpapers with a graphic pattern or a picture of a stylish accent (red lips, eyes with blue shadows on the eyelids, cans of Coca-Cola, candy bars or packages of famous sweets) on a white background with the same bright circles. Plastic chairs of unusual shapes are placed around the glossy bar or dining table. Particular attention is paid to the apron, it also put a picture or a picture of the comics. On the ceiling, mounted flat chandeliers that combine with the shades of geometric shapes, hanging on long, thin "legs." Groups of the latest appliances are placed directly above the accent zone - the dining table.

Living room

The living room is sure to place a wide cozy sofa. In the color palette there are two options:

  • The upholstery of the sofa is chosen bright colors that "soothe" monochromatic pads of pastel tones;
  • Textile furniture beige, white, ivory. Pillows choose bright with original prints or a combination of geometric lines and images.

The home library will give a special touch to the living room. Books are arranged in shelves with open shelves near the accented wall. “Library” content alternates with decorative elements of non-standard shapes and colors. The floor is covered with a bright, soft carpet or a striped walkway. Provide a place for reading: a separate area with a pair of chairs or a corner sofa near the coffee table made of glass. A simple stand with a TV stand is installed in front of the sofa. For a small cabinet of standard construction, space is left in an inconspicuous corner. This object should not be bulky and occupy a large area.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, active pop art is slightly holding back. Posters and posters are placed on the wall, which rests against the head of the bed. The bed itself is covered with a bright blanket with prints. They can find their continuation in the textile curtains or carpet. The walls are traditionally decorated in white. Here, an abundance of decor will be superfluous, so a pair of hanging shelves is enough, where several figurines or volumes of graphic novels are placed. To slightly balance the dominance of "artificiality" it is permissible to use a couple of flowers in pots, which are placed directly on the floor by the window.

An interesting addition to the interior will be the use of alternating round mirrors instead of one above the bedside table. The bed does not need to choose a standard, rectangular shape. In pop art, round models with smooth lines look great. Their shape can repeat the pedestal (elevation above the floor), on which the bed is installed.

Bathroom

In the bathroom, it is permissible to decorate all the walls in bright colors. Smooth interior will be due to the white plumbing. Blinds are also used with prints. The bathroom is the only room where ceramic tiles look appropriate. Choose it with bright "spots" that are randomly scattered on the walls. Non-standard solution will be the placement of pictures in this room. To save the paintings they are placed in a simple metal frame under the glass. Originally looks like a decor near the mirror above the sink. Towel holders and pens are used "under the metal" with chrome-plated surfaces. Sinks choose mainly overhead. Forms of bowls can be very different, but "basins" instead of the usual washstands look the most primitive. It is better to choose a deep bath with high sides, which were used in the middle of the last century. If there is enough space in the room and you can install a cabinet for storing household items and towels, then its glass or empty doors between the frames decorate the blinds - a simple and practical option.

Conclusion

Pop art in the interior - an unusual style in all respects. He has no clear boundaries, you set them yourself. The description of the direction is very succinct: primitivism and images of popular culture. Pop art was born on the wave of protest, therefore it uses this practice in many ways: to go against common standards. Despite the very solid "age" style still remains popular and does not yield its position to the new trends of designer fashion. He is only improving and slightly changing to keep up with the times, remaining true to his convictions.
