Wrought-iron beds in a modern bedroom interior + 75 photo examples of models

Forged beds have been used in the interior for a long time. These pieces of furniture do not age and go out of fashion. Under forging means the process of deformation of the metal (heated or cooled) under the action of a press or hammer, that is, its decoration. The more elegant the pattern, the thinner the work of the master, and accordingly the higher the price for the finished product. The history of blacksmithing originates in the depths of the centuries. It began at a time when a person learned how to make fire and “became acquainted” with metal. In Russia, blacksmiths were among the most respected people in the villages, on a par with the elders. Sometimes superstitious residents attributed to them even supernatural abilities, ostensibly the process of metal processing was a matter of exclusively mystical nature. It is possible that the transformations that the heated base underwent underwent, seemed to people to be a miracle.

Now forging metal is just a physical process that obeys the laws of this science. Although without the subtle artistic taste of the master, the product will be just the very stamping, without the "soul" that the smith invests in his work. With the help of forging create elements of the exterior of the house and the design of the site: fences, canopies, gazebos, gates, grills for windows and doors. Indoors use wrought-iron beds, frames for mirrors, railings, chandeliers, candlesticks, tables, hinged shelves, separate fireplace elements and supports for indoor plants.

Forged features and production options

Forged products have a long service life. On average, the “lifespan” of the structure is more than 100 years. You can even leave your wrought-iron bed to the children as a legacy, because it will retain the original look.

The temperature to which bring the disc (a piece of raw material), there are two types of forging:

ColdUsed mainly in jewelry. Cool copper, silver or gold.
HotUsed in manual work.

By the nature of the work, the classification is as follows:

StampingIn this case, special hollow forms are used, that is, the blank is bounded on all sides, and when heated, it fills the voids and acquires the desired shape.
ManualThe stock is not limited at all or only partially. All work is done manually (as the name implies) with a hammer.
MachineFor forging, special units are used, which are supplied with heavy hammers or presses that deform the metal.

It should be noted that the harder the steel, the lower the maximum temperature of its heating. The fact is that soft material during cooling crystallizes more slowly. Overheating of steel is fraught with the formation of "grains" and a violation of the integrity of the blanks. It can crack or even scatter into pieces from a single blow of the hammer. There is such a thing as a burn. In this case, the chemical structure of the steel is disturbed, it begins to lose carbon actively, which brings it closer to iron. Such material is not suitable for work. Burned out is much more dangerous than overheating, as it is no longer possible to fix it.

There is also another classification by processing method:

  • Ordinary. The whole product is made from one disc.
  • Welding. In it pre-heated parts are interconnected.
  • Crimping krits. Based on the material, heated to a pasty state. By forging its smallest particles are compacted and welded with each other, in parallel with this process there is a release of slags.

For a particular type of product, one or another processing method is used. Due to their large size, beds are made in parts and then welded into a one-piece construction.

Methods of making forged beds

Wrought beds are made mainly by two methods:

  • Stamping;
  • Handwork.

The price of stamped at times lower, because they are made faster and are not unique. During handicraft, the master spends much more time, but it turns out an exclusive, one might even say a designer product. It can be made according to customer sketches.

The process itself is conventionally divided into several stages:

  • Heating blanks (steel base). Gradually melt the oven until the stage of dark red heat. At this stage it is placed in a pre-heated material. The last nuance is very important, as a cold blank from a sharp temperature difference in the outer and inner layers can cause cracks and breaks that will not be visible visually, but will make themselves felt when crimping. The material is heated to a maximum temperature (for metal of different hardness a separate threshold is set) and removed from the furnace.
  • The next step will be a snap. Here the master begins to strike the disc. Philistines may assume that the metal inside has a dense structure, in fact it is not. Under the top layer microscopic cavities and "tunnels" hide. It is necessary to get rid of them, that is, to “press out” the disc: press the heated material with a hammer.
  • Stocking Almost final stage. During harvesting, the blanks are given the desired shape and customized to the required dimensions. It turns out almost finished product, but still with rough outlines. This process, in turn, is also divided into several types: the preparation of rings, flat things solid and hollow cylinders.
  • Final trim. At this stage, the product is finally customized for exiz. It is cleared of cracks, chipping and hammering “bypass” again. In parallel, use cold water, which doused the product. As a result, a scale is formed that positively affects the smoothness of the surface. Finish with primer surface and its staining.

When heated, dross forms on the surface of the blank. It partially falls off during the swage, and the rest is removed with a broom. Because of this layer, the pig loses a small part of its original size. For this reason, it takes a little more than the item you want to receive.

Forged beds in various styles of interior decoration

Forged beds can be of three types:

  • With headboard and footboard. They, in turn, may be the same height or different;
  • Only with headboard;
  • With wrought iron canopy frame.

From materials, preference is given to aluminum, cast iron, copper, steel and iron. Previously, such products, because of the high cost, could only be afforded by buyers from the well-off strata of society. Now the prices for wrought-iron beds also “bite”, but due to the lack of the need to replace them for decades to come, overpayment quickly turns into savings.

Many people mistakenly believe that such a bed will bring gloom with it into the decor of the room. These associations did not arise from scratch. Previously, forged beds used in styles with "heavy" luxury. They could be seen in historical films, where the furnishings of the bedrooms were decorated in dark colors, with an abundance of decorative elements. Such styles were classical for that time, but became far from the interior ideal of modern man. However, the range of forged beds is represented by thousands of models, which are continued in most modern design trends. “Native” such products are considered for the classics, Provence and Italian style.

Fusion, kitsch and eclecticism

For a typical interior in the style of kitsch using primitive wrought-iron beds. Drawing on the sides will be simple and straightforward without an abundance of fine tie or complex elements. Often, for kitsch, which is distinguished by its love for low-grade products, stamping, that is, elements of mass production, is acquired. Fusion is in many ways similar to eclecticism; in fact, these are all only two extremes within a single style. The only difference is that eclecticism was created at the beginning of the last century on the ruins of the once popular Baroque and Rococo.

Fusion belongs to the younger areas using modern materials in the design. Both styles are a mix. For this reason, forged beds can be of various shapes and metal "weaving". The whole question is only in their combinations with other items of furniture, decor and decoration. For example, on the background of brick or stone walls of industrial classic bed with a complex ornament of curlicues will look very original. In wooden houses from a bar with untreated surfaces that will “shout” about a rustic style, fusion will place a berth of expensive materials with forging painted in extravagant colors. A room with a bed in vintage style with a soft, delicate pattern, eclecticism can easily turn into a combined room. It will present the American colonial style in the decoration and elements of baroque stucco.

Modern or Art Nouveau

Modern has managed to synthesize natural materials, calm shades (ash-gray, beige, black, pastel colors) and smooth, rounded lines. Forged beds in the decoration of the bedroom will be its accent. The headboard and footboard will be decorated with solid curved lines of different diameter in certain areas. They will resemble long stalks of fantastic flowers, which by their interlacing create a quaint, but natural-organic pattern.

By the way, forging in this style is used in all rooms: from the living room to the bathroom. The results of blacksmith work are found in decorative partitions, table legs, chair backs, window grilles, chandeliers and wall sconces. Art Nouveau seeks to create a feeling in the atmosphere, as if it was decorated by nature itself. The abundance of flowers and wavy lines is embodied not only in the decoration, but also forged beds. They are decorated with complex, symmetrical elements (flowers and leaves), which are continued in ornate patterns on the walls and carved wood in the furniture: author's cabinets, armchairs, pedestals. Forged ornament in art nouveau will necessarily be the result of the fine work of the master.

Classicism

In classicism, forged products look organic and appropriate. In fact, the peak of their popularity coincided with the flowering of this style. It is characterized by an abundance of fine details, elegant lines, patterns and ornaments more reminiscent of fine workmanship. Forged bed, you can choose from samples of the end of the XIIX-beginning of the XIX century. It will be decorated with traditional for that time symmetric patterns with curlicues. An elegant addition will be a canopy made of satin fabric, which is combined with textile curtains and bedspreads.

Country music

In the country, wrought-iron headboards are made with vertical "pins", the top of which connects a modest ornament. The bed is covered with a blanket of Scottish tartan (checkered fabric), which will emphasize the "cowboy" negligence of the situation. On the sides, the sides of the bed are complemented by tall columns that rise above the composition. You can use standard models that used to stand in all summer camps and sanatoriums, but with the addition of small twisted elements. Country music in many ways resembles a simple, rustic style, so it does not tolerate excessive pomp and luxury. For this direction choose simple and functional furniture.

Chebbi chic

Shebbi-chic, in many respects similar to Provence, but uses furniture that mimics well-preserved antiques. And his closest "relative" comes from the suburbs of Paris, preferring coarse, aged elements. For chebbi chic fit beds that are used in a classic style. They are placed in a more variegated setting, but this combination does not spoil the overall picture. Forging is painted in delicate colors: white, pink, blue or peach. They are in harmony with colorful bedspreads, soft carpets on the floor and light bedroom furnishings.

Loft

To decorate the room in the loft style use stone, brick, metal. High panel ceilings adorn the abundance of communication systems, which become the highlight of the interior, and not the result of its casual decoration. Wrought beds in this slightly softened and “combed” industrial are rarely used. If they are still chosen for industrial luxury, then only simple shapes, no frills. They should not play a key role in the interior, the decoration will cope with this successfully. The wrought-iron bed will become just a functional detail, discreet and practical.

Wrought iron beds for children

Furniture in the nursery should be not only comfortable, but also safe. Forged beds in the interior of this room are not used as often, although the modern market offers a wide range of models with a special coating. It will not cause allergies and is completely harmless to the body of the child. In the nursery, they install both cribs with sides around the perimeter for the safety of the infant, as well as double options if there are two children. Some models ("attics") are specially designed for small rooms. They are multifunctional and allow you to install under the bed, which is located at the top, a computer desk for work, cabinets or chairs.

Color solution in the design of the wrought bed

In traditional versions, black, gray “steel” and bronze paints are used. The bed should match the color of the room, and modern materials allow you to get any desired shade. In the gentle, romantic bedrooms of young girls with floral patterns in textiles and an abundance of small elements they use:

  • Purple;
  • Pink;
  • Emerald.

Paints are used for bedrooms in strict styles:

  • Gray;
  • White;
  • Brown (usually with a metal effect);
  • Blue;
  • Violet.

In flashy, experimental styles, metal beds are painted in several colors at once.

Forged bed and bedroom area

In small bedrooms with a deficit of sq.m. Do not use bulky furniture. This rule applies to beds. In such rooms, they will occupy most of the room anyway, therefore the forged pattern should be simple and the colors neutral. In the spacious bedrooms, wide beds are more like luxurious beds. It will not be superfluous to add a canopy, the frame of which is also made of metal and supplemented with decorative elements. Imitation of thin tree trunks with leaves and branches or columns crowned with vines looks original.

What is the combination of a wrought-iron bed in the bedroom design

Forged bed in the interior of the bedroom should be in harmony with the style of the room and not look like an alien element in it. First of all, textiles are selected for the product: blankets and pillows. In choosing repelled from the design of forged items. Floral ornament is combined with floral patterns and natural fabrics. More rigorous options with geometric compositions are combined with the same “fantastic” fabric pattern.

To complete the picture, the same master can order the manufacture of forged legs of a cabinet or chairs, a frame for a mirror or a ceiling chandelier. The pattern on the sides of the bed can be repeated in the wooden elements of other furniture, curtains, wallpaper or decorative trim.

Conclusion

Forging is a complex craft that combines technical work and aesthetic taste of a master. The result of the work of a professional are unique products. Metal acquires incredible strength, and the furniture from it will successfully pass the age-old test of time. You can change the design of the bedroom dozens of times, but its design will line up around the "monumental" wrought bed. It will easily flow into almost any style and will emphasize the owners' love for beautiful and elegant things.
